North Carolina may be gearing up for a big battle on Medicaid expansion in 2019. While Civitas is more than ready to point out the many fallacies on entitlement expansion, and we are with numerous op-eds and special projects, we expect to be on the offensive to continue to remove barriers to freedom statewide.
Some of the themes in this January issue of the Newspaper point to the positives of eliminating the corporate income tax in North Carolina as well as a heavy emphasis on how that will help to alleviate crony-minded policies and corporate welfare. If you have an interest in nixing the corporate income tax be sure to check out a new academic report we released in January. It gives ample evidence of all the economic benefits North Carolina would reap by abolishing it.
The “from the editor” section offers up focus on what is the proper role and sphere of government today, particularly when it comes to private property. It’s hard to understand how so many politicians and citizens want to hand over more power to the government and centralized authority given all the brokenness and problems we see today in Raleigh and especially Washington.
Our latest polling is included in the issue too and continues to show that North Carolina is the quintessential swing state. There is strong evidence that it has the potential to be closer in the next presidential election than traditional swing state models like Florida and Ohio.
There is a lot of content in this issue and I want to remind everyone they can sign up for a free copy of the newspaper to be delivered to their home at the Civitas homepage.
