RALEIGH, N.C. – Civitas President and CEO issued the following statement after a federal judge announced her intention of blocking the implementation of North Carolina’s constitutionally-passed voter ID amendment:
“This injunction is the result of a continued assault on the will of North Carolina voters by the political Left. For all their talk about the value of democracy, it seems that the NAACP and other groups don’t value the will of voters. Instead, these groups went ‘judge shopping’ in Winston Salem, and North Carolina’s voter ID law will be blocked between Christmas and New Year’s Day when citizens are paying attention to their families instead of partisanship. This injunction is a stain on democracy and transparent government.”
Judge Loretta Biggs, who was appointed by President Barack Obama, is handling the case in Winston Salem.
