Voters Prefer Uniform Business Tax Cuts to Spur Economy
Cooper’s Tax Policy Out of Touch With Voters
RALEIGH, NC – Civitas Polling’s most recent survey found the majority of North Carolina voters believe across the board tax cuts to all businesses is the best strategy to improve our state’s economy.
The text of the question reads:
Which strategy to improve North Carolina’s economy reflects your opinion?
58% Across the board tax cuts to all businesses
19% Targeted incentives and tax breaks should be given to a select few businesses
13% Neither/Other
2% Both
7 % Don’t Know
* Refused
Earlier today, Governor Cooper took to social media to announce his budget recommendations. In it, he called for halting the corporate income tax cuts for 2019.
The Civitas Poll found that 60 percent of self-identified blue-collar workers preferred across the board cuts to incentives.
“Governor Cooper’s solution to driving the North Carolina economy appears to be out of touch with voters,” said Donald Bryson, president of the Civitas Institute. “Voters generally understand that fairness is essential in a tax system, and an administration that can’t stop signing sweetheart incentive deals while fighting uniform tax cuts doesn’t reflect fairness in its policies.”
