RALEIGH, N.C. — Yesterday, Civitas Institute published an article exposing the abrasive and disturbing anti-Catholic sentiment expressed in an article published by NC Policy Watch.
In the article, the writer, Frank DeFilippo, suggests Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh would base his judgment on a critical federal case because of his Catholic faith, implying that his faith would taint his ability to be a competent jurist.
“What a bigoted, hate-filled rant, written by a man who thinks God is dead is desperately hoping he’s right. People of faith should never be mocked,” said North Carolina state Senator Kathy Harrington (Gaston–R), a member of the Catholic community.
Since June 21, 1788, the United States has had a constitutional mandate barring a religious test for those serving in public office. Unfortunately, this article published by Policy Watch highlights a growing concern that many on the Left are willing to ignore this crucial clause.
“The decision to publish an article filled with such a hate-filled diatribe, by an author who has a clear history of religious bigotry, truly begs the question whether or not NC Policy Watch can be taken seriously as a public policy organization in North Carolina,” said Civitas President Donald Bryson. “Furthermore, by publishing this article is NC Policy Watch honoring the intent of its board and donors?”
Background:
Here are a few examples of some of the egregious statements made by DeFilippo:
“…the modern presentation and perception of religion itself and what the three major religions have allowed themselves to become; Christianity as a magic show, Judaism as a food festival and Islam, at the risk of precipitating another Charlie Hebdo event, an eternal erotic experience.” – Splice Today
“And yes, a large degree of the transformation traces to the liberal Jews in the General Assembly and in Baltimore’s City Hall as well as the wealthy Jews outside of government who provided financial support to the NAACP in the fight for racial parity. The late political entrepreneur, Irv Kovens, for example, was an early honoree as NAACP man of the year for his checkbook support.” – Marlyland Matters
“Any one option would give us Pence, and he’d be free to select his own vice president, preferably Jesus, if he had the choice. But that choice might not work for Pence, either. Jesus believed in the separation of church and state (Mark 12:17). Pence would fuse the two into a caliphate, based on his beliefs.” – Splice Today
At the time of this release, NC Policy Watch has not issued a public comment, an apology to the Catholic community, or removed the article from their site.
