The “Freedom” scorecard courtesy of Civitas Action is published in the August issue of the newspaper. All state legislators are scored from 100-0 on their conservative voting record. Three of the scored votes include the three constitutional amendments supported by the Civitas Institute. Those are the right to hunt and fish, voter ID, and the lowering of the tax cap amendments. North Carolinians will vote on those potential state constitutional amendments and three others in the November midterm elections.
Included in the issue too is an important article by Campbell Law Professor E. Gregory Wallace. He offers some valuable insight on President Donald Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. In looking at Kavanaugh, Wallace explains the importance of originalism as a judicial philosophy and why it matters in our hyper-politicized society.
There is a lot of content for August and like always readers can find the latest North Carolina unemployment numbers and voter registration trends by county.
