Why can’t Congress get their act together and repeal the nightmare of Obamacare?
Republicans in Congress were swept in on a wave of anger over growing government and oppressive regulations – getting rid of Obamacare, we were promised, was priority #1.
They promised. They passed useless repeal bill after repeal bill.
Now we know it was all political theater.
One reason is that unlike every other American citizen, they do not feel the pain of rising premiums and less competition in the health insurance marketplace.
Congress and their “official staff” are exempt from Obamacare
They are insured through the District of Columbia’s small business exchange – but they receive a one-of-a-kind subsidy from their employer (WE THE TAXPAYER) of up to $12,000 or about 70% of their premiums.
This exemption was created administratively.
It can be eliminated administratively – by Executive Order of the President.
Help Civitas send a message to the White House that President Trump should eliminate the Congressional exemption and light a fire under Congress to REPEAL OBAMACARE!

President Trump: We the undersigned ask you to eliminate, via Executive Action, Congressional exemptions from and subsidies for Obamacare. The Affordable Care Act required members of Congress and their employees to participate in the health insurance exchanges it established, and should have caused them to lose their generous coverage provided through the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program. In 2012, the Office of Personnel Management administratively ruled that House and Senate members each have fewer than 50 employees, and thus qualify as "small businesses". This enabled OPM to establish a system of special subsidies of up to $12,000 per year for House and Senate Members, and exempted many congressional staffers from the requirement to purchase insurance through the Obamacare exchanges. This is an illegal practice that was established administratively, and can be stopped in the same way. Eliminating these Congressional exemptions and subsidies is smart politics, it will encourage legislators to repeal the nightmare of Obamacare, and it is simply the right and moral thing to do.
