I have a very difficult time understanding your logic. You claim to be for limited government and freedom but are using government to restrict other people’s freedom. You cannot legislate morality, further, government and religious views do not mix. This absurd issue was created by the so called Christian right to detriment of the citizens of NC.
Amen, Chuck. HB2 was not the will of the people–on either side. It simply put our State in negative political turmoil for a social issue that had not been a major problem here among our people except as spawned by outside political activist groups. Perhaps even now, you are putting forth the same query you asked of our legislators: “whether or not North Carolina wants to be seen as a state willing to bow to the will of (your) extortionist tactics to accomplish a (your) social agenda (and similar ones like photo id) at odds with the will of our citizens.” Isn’t Civitas simply another “group(s) trying to impact legislative actions” within our State? Let’s be honest here. This whole LGBT rights kick the left has been on for the past year is simply the way that irresponsible liberals justify their own bad behavior. If even homosexuality is normal, then everything is normal, and nothing is abnormal. Thus no one has any right to criticize anything anyone else does. Not even if it has terrible consequences and undermines society. We have an entire generation now that does not see any consequences for just doing whatever one wants, which is why they are the most selfish and self-centered generation in the history of humanity. But, by loudly shouting their support for LGBT folks, who are as abnormal as you can get, they get to not only ignore their own bad behavior, but feel like they are actually civil rights heroes. In fifty years when our grandchildren are picking up the pieces of the civilization we utterly destroyed, they will curse us for our outrageous stupidity. And we will deserve every single curse. We are the worst people this world has ever seen. The liberals for believing this nonsense and the conservatives for not standing up to it.

Wilkie, I hardly know how to respond to your post because it was so full of discrimination, misinformation and hatred. I am an older Christian woman and my faith calls on me to love others and take care of my neighbor; not to judge or discriminate against anyone. It is not up to me to decide who is normal because I am not God. We are all God’s children including women and gays.
I wish that those who are so willing to heap disgust and scorn on gays would first realize that these individuals do not choose to be gay and that it is not a “lifestyle”. I did not choose to be heterosexual; I was born that way. I understand that some fundamentalist Christians believe homosexuality is a sin however that does not give those individuals the right to discriminate against or be abusive to gays.
I have many gay friends whom I love and would do anything to protect. The only difference between them and me is the sex of the person we love. They have families, work, are Democrats or Republican, have dreams, hurt just like you and I and just want to live their lives as human beings. Before you judge, I encourage you to stop and think about the impact your words and actions have on a marginalized group of people. Discriminatory words and actions hurt others. Would you like to be treated like that?

georgina ~ I believe there are two major reasons so many confessing believers in Christ have allowed themselves to be more rearranged by culture than by the truth of God’s word, drifting into spiritual compromise and even into apostasy (abandoning the truth of one’s faith). This is not a new problem; the apostle Paul urged his readers in Rome, “Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mold, but let God re-mold your minds from within. . .” (Romans 12:2, Phillips).
The bitter fruit of several decades of shallow preaching, teaching and discipleship is that many believers have been especially vulnerable to Satan’s deceptive question to Eve in the Garden of Eden: “Did God really say . . .?” Where is your God-given gift of “discernment?” Christ loves the sinner ~ NOT THE SIN. When Christians ignore or flat-out reject the unmistakably clear biblical statements condemning homosexual relationships, they are playing right into the enemy’s temptation to justify disobedience by making “feelings and perceptions” more important than God’s original design and standards.
As a result of this, there are now two streams of thought on same-sex relationships and behavior, the Traditional View and the Revisionist View. The Revisionist View basically says, “It doesn’t matter what the Bible actually says, it doesn’t mean what 2000 years of church history has said it means, it means what WE want it to say and therefore WE shape it according to OUR comfort zone.”
People are redefining the Bible, gender and marriage according to what will let them do what they want, when they should (in my opinion) be asking the insightful question posed “Am I trying to interpret Scripture in the light of my proclivity, or should I interpret my proclivity in the light of Scripture?” God did not make Adam & Steve. He BEGAN with Adam & EVE.

What does any of this have to do with gays or Christians or the Bible?
Some people are confused, how did HB2 limit people’s rights? Perhaps someone will make the case that a man has a right to enter a women’s bathroom or that a woman has a right to enter a men’s bathroom. If you make that case then you are arguing that bathrooms should not be divided up by the biological sex of the people using them, but by some other reason. But if one makes the argument that dividing up by biological sex violates someone’s right than what possible justification is there for dividing up by any other reason? Whatever reason you propose will end up violating someone rights.
So what the opposers of HB2 are really proposing is that all bathrooms (and other like facilities) should not be divided up at all and that all such facilities MUST be common to anyone that wants to use them. Its the complete disingenuousness on the part of the opposers that really make this an issue at all. Bad!
@Tim Peck: mostly only what the tranny-panderers have wanted it to have to do with any of those things. Currently, they’re screaming bloody murder at Cooper for, among other things, accepting HB142’s temporary continuation of HB2’s moratorium on their fascistic attempts (like the Charlotte ordinance) to force private businesses and organizations to play along with tranny delusions.
