RALEIGH – In response to the new educational choice options included in the state budget, Civitas senior education policy analyst Dr. Robert Luebke made the following statement:
“We commend legislators for making North Carolina the sixth state to approve Education Savings Accounts. Civitas has led the way in advocating for ESA’s in North Carolina, an option that has proven to be extraordinarily effective in giving real freedom to families to choose where and how students are educated. The program laid out in the 2018 state budget empowers families with children of special needs to choose the best education for them and gives military families an option they did not have before.”
He continued, “Furthermore, we applaud the multi-year expansion of the Opportunity Scholarship Program in North Carolina, which will provide real savings to even more families. As legislators take the lead in providing these options to families, we hope Governor Cooper will catch up and join in advocating for more choice for parents and students.”
