RALEIGH –Republican Sen. Bill Cook leads Democrat challenger Stan White by 4 points in the state Senate District 1 race, according to a new Flash Poll released today by the Civitas Institute.
In the flash poll, 300 registered voters from the district in Northeastern North Carolina were interviewed Oct. 6-7. The survey had a margin of error of plus/minus 5.8 percent.
In the poll, 45 percent said they planned to vote for Cook; 41 percent picked White. Fourteen percent were undecided.
When asked if they viewed the candidates favorably or unfavorably, 46 percent said they were neutral about Cook or had no opinion. Fifty-eight percent were neutral or had no opinion of White.
Asked if they approved of the job Barack Obama is doing as president, 26 percent approved, 67 percent disapproved, and 7 percent were not sure.
Thirty-seven percent approved of the job Pat McCrory is doing as governor, while 43 percent disapproved and 20 percent were not sure.
Fifty percent favored Republic Thom Tillis in the U.S. Senate race, 34 percent preferred Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan, and 9 percent named Libertarian Sean Haugh, with 7 percent undecided.

Respondent households were selected at random, using Random Digit Dialed (RDD) sample provided by Survey Sampling, of Fairfield CT.
