News reports indicate that Gov. Pat McCrory and members of the General Assembly are considering returning to Raleigh for a special session to expand funding for the state’s Job Development Investment Grant program (JDIG).
Civitas Action considers JDIG, and other similar taxpayer-funded grant programs that provide special privileges to specific businesses or industries, to be corporate welfare and against free-market principles.
Any vote on legislation to expand JDIG, or to expand any other corporate welfare programs, will be graded in Civitas Action’s Conservative Effectiveness Ranking.
