IRS and AG Holder not so Favorable
RALEIGH – The latest Civitas Poll shows that President Obama and Sen. Kay Hagan enjoyed a slight uptick in their favorability ratings and Governor Pat McCrory continued to have a net positive favorability rating.
Forty-nine percent of voters view the president favorably, a 4-point increase since the March Civitas Poll. In June, 47 percent viewed him unfavorably, compared to 52 percent in March. Hagan’s rating also moved up from a 41-31 split to 42-28.
“The President’s and Hagan’s favorability numbers nudged upwards this month,” Civitas President Francis X. De Luca said. “This poll may have had a larger number of self-identified Democrats than usual but it is serves as a reminder that many Democratic voters remain staunchly loyal to the President and his party.”
Gov. Pat McCrory’s rating was 49 percent favorable and 32 percent unfavorable. That compares to a 56-25 percent split in March.
“It is inevitable that a governor gets some heat,” De Luca said. “Note that at roughly the same point in her term as governor, Bev Perdue had a 36-38 favorable/unfavorable rating. McCrory retains a favorable image in the minds of voters.”
“Other public figures may take comfort that, compared to how voters in North Carolina feel about the IRS, they are doing OK,” De Luca said. “That included Attorney General Eric Holder.”
The poll of 600 registered North Carolina voters had a margin of error of plus-minus 4 percent.

About the Poll:
This poll of 600 registered voters in North Carolina was conducted June 18-19, 2013 by National Research, Inc. of Holmdel, NJ. All respondents were part of a fully representative sample of registered general election voters in North Carolina. Twenty-five percent of the respondents were cell phone-only users. For purposes of this study, voters interviewed had to have voted in at least one of the past two general elections (2010, 2012) or be newly registered to vote since November 7, 2012.
The confidence interval associated with a sample of this size is such that: 95 percent of the time, results from 600 interviews (registered voters) will be within +-4% of the “True Values.”
Civitas conducts the only regular live-caller polling of North Carolina voters. For more information on Civitas polling, see http://www.nccivitas.org/category/poll/.
