Raleigh, N.C. – The Civitas Institute has released its recap of the just-concluded session of the North Carolina General Assembly, giving mixed reviews to the Legislature’s work.
“The new majority had a string of important accomplishments,” said Francis De Luca, President of the Raleigh-based think tank. “They passed significant reforms in education and started the effort to rein in state government, and they began to put the brakes on spending.”
“However, legislators were stymied by Gov. Bev Perdue and the Democrats on some important measures,” he added. “Nor was the new majority able to make dramatic cuts in spending, as many conservatives had hoped for. Much remains to be done next year in the new session.”
The recaps can be read online here.
